Look
If you had one shot, or one opportunity
To put the world right – one moment
Would you do it, or just let the world slip?
These words were inspired by one of my favourite artists – Eminem.
Today, we all seem to have some sort of complaint about the state of the world. yet we all expect someone else to put it right. No one person cannot put this right. The only person who can put it right is you. You and about 8 billion people just like you.
Heed the words of the Michael Jackson song – Man in the Mirror
I’m starting with the man in the mirror
I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could’ve been any clearer
If they wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change
I don’t have all the answers, but the one thing I do know is – we cannot afford to sit around and expect everyone else to fix the world for us.
ARE YOU WILLING TO DO YOUR PART?
Here’s my challenge –
What are you going to do today to
make the world a better place?
It doesn’t have to be anything gigantic.
And we’re certainly not going to ask you to do anything outrageous.
All we need at first are small gestures – a smile or say hello to a stranger. Say thank you to someone who held a door open for you – something – anything. It starts with you. It’s not that difficult.
Here’s the bonus – believe it or not, regardless if you were acknowledged, it will actually make you feel good. And suddenly, you are making a change.
Many years ago I had the opportunity to visit Japan. What a wonderful country. No one told me what to expect. No one gave me any suggestions. But within a few hours of arriving, I was bowing to people – and he’s the interesting thing – it felt perfectly natural. I wasn’t play acting nor was I patronising the people I met. It just felt right.
Today, whenever I see someone, either a friend or a complete stranger, I look at them and smile. Some look away and pretend not to notice me, and that’s OK. Some just look at me, but a few smile back.
Regardless – it starts small – and it starts with you. You are the man in the mirror. You have that one opportunity – don’t let it slip.
Give me some feed back. Tell me what you did.
